Loving Learning

Right now, we are loving learning about:

Bible -  We completed our study of Moses.  This week we will retell and share our favorite stories from this year!

Phonics Focus:  Sounds of ough, aught, ought - we will only introduce these sounds.  There will be no test on them.

Grammar / Creative Writing - As the year ends, we will not test on anymore topics; however, we still want to utilize our time wisely to expose students to the following topics:  1) Recognizing and writing similes  2) Dividing sentences into subject and action parts  3) Identifying the “main word” or “simple subject”  4) Identifying the “main action word” or “simple verb”  5) Identifying Predicates  6) Recognizing Run-on Sentences.

Reading - This week we will complete our Intellectual Art and take our final Reading A-Z evaluations.  We will also do a brief introduction to the Comprehension Focus:  Plot - when trying to reach a goal or solve a problem, anticipation rises until something happens that influences the outcome.

Math:  We will continue Unit 9:  Equal Shares and Whole Number Operations.  Students will review place value by writing multi-digit numbers in expanded form and comparing them, use base-10 blocks to solve subtraction problems with & without regrouping, and practice finding coin and bill combinations with equivalent values and using cents and dollars-and-cents notation.

Social Studies:  We will introduce the 3 branches of our Government - local, state, and federal.
