For the week of May 10th-May 14th

Helpful Highlights

CHANGES TO BIBLE TEST

We are now taking Bible Verse tests with no word bank.  Words WILL NOT be marked wrong for misspellings; however, the missing words must be close to the correct spelling.  Our last test will be Friday, May 14th.

YEARBOOKS

Students are excited to bring home their 2020-2021 yearbook!  They will come home on Tuesday, May 11th.  We will give them an opportunity to sign each other’s yearbook on that day.

Loving Learning

Right now, we are loving learning about:

Bible -  We complete our study of the last part of Moses’ life, as the Israelites’ journey nears the Promised Land.  Our lessons will include:  Balaam the False Prophet, Moses Sees the Promised Land, and The Death of Moses.

Phonics / Spelling -  Sounds of /tion/ and /sion/.  Our last test will be Friday, May 14th.

Grammar / Creative Writing - We have completed our writing unit:  Persuasive Writing.  As the year ends, we will not test on anymore topics; however, we still want to utilize our time wisely to expose students to the following topics:  1) Recognizing and writing similes  2) Dividing sentences into subject and action parts  3) Identifying the “main word” or “simple subject”  4) Identifying the “main action word” or “simple verb”  5) Identifying Predicates  6) Recognizing Run-on Sentences.

Reading - This week we will work on our Intellectual Art and take our final Reading A-Z evaluations.

Math - On Tuesday, we will take the Cumulative Test.  Next, we will introduce Unit 9:  Equal Shares and Whole Number Operations.  This week students will divide shapes and use fraction vocabulary to name the shares, explore equal shares of different shapes, use pattern blocks to divide shapes, make a number line, and decide how to share muffins equally.

Social Studies - We will be introducing Unit 3:  Georgia at Work.  Topics will include:  1)  Needs, Wants, and Choices - identifying costs and benefits of an economic choice.  2)  People at Work - explaining what consumers and producers do.  3)  Goods and Services - explaining that because of scarcity people make choices about goods and services they buy.  4)  Spending and Saving - describing costs and benefits of personal spending and saving choices.
